Newport City Council’s upcoming meeting at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, June 11 features a packed agenda, covering a range of topics, including budget discussions, event permits, and ordinance changes.
The council will pick up where it left off on the FY2026-FY2027 Biennial Budget, which was recently put on hold. They’re holding a public hearing on the budget and looking at related rules for allocating funds and updating staff policies.

Several local events are seeking permits, including the Newport Art Museum’s “Wet Paint” activities in August and the Redwood Library’s Summer Gala in July. The council is also reviewing a number of entertainment license renewals for local businesses.
There’s a proposal to increase the budget for the Elm Street Pier Repair/Replacement Project by $81,294.16, bringing the total with Reagan Marine Construction to $1,565,544.16.

Residents of Kilburn Court have asked for 24-hour residential parking, and since enough of them signed the petition, the council’s considering making it official.

The city might team up with state agencies on a $150,000 grant to study ways to restore marsh habitat and improve public spaces at South Easton Pond. The goal is to manage flooding better and make the area more accessible.

The council will decide whether to keep working with Polimorphic AI. For $33,600, they’d continue providing AI-powered customer service through the city’s website and after-hours phone system.
