Scouting America Troop 3B Newport has added another remarkable milestone to its legacy, earning the Narragansett Council Southeast District Troop of the Year award.
Additionally, Scoutmaster Lauracatherine Olack was recognized as Scoutmaster of the Year—a testament to her dedication and leadership in guiding the next generation of Scouts.
The awards were presented at the Narragansett Council Southeast District Awards Dinner on Monday, May 5, where Troop 3B was celebrated for its 78-year history of excellence, recently marking an incredible achievement: its 100th Eagle Scout. Under the leadership of Senior Patrol Leader Ethan Hoag, a sophomore at Rogers High School, the troop continues to uphold its tradition of shaping youth into responsible, skilled leaders.

At the helm of Troop 3B is Scoutmaster Lauracatherine Olack, a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, who brings her invaluable expertise and mentorship to the Scouts of Newport. Her guidance has propelled the troop forward, fostering a program rich in summer and winter camping, community service projects, and outdoor adventure—all designed to instill resilience, teamwork, and a commitment to service.
Troop 3B meets Monday evenings at the Newport Elks Lodge and works alongside Troop 3G Newport, a troop for girls, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive Scouting experience for Newport youth. Their shared mission strengthens the Scouting community, allowing young leaders to engage in meaningful experiences that prepare them for life.
The Troop of the Year and Scoutmaster of the Year honors highlight Troop 3B’s impact and Ms. Olack’s exceptional leadership, reinforcing their commitment to Scouting America’s aims of character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.
