Rita Margaret Smith, 104, of 44 Dudley Ave., Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on May 6, 2025, in the Grand Islander Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Walter W. Smith.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Roe) May.
She resided in Newport for over 60 years.
Rita is survived by her children; Nancy Carroll, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Walter Smith, of Portsmouth. She additionally leaves six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Smith, and her sisters, Florence Parker, Mary O’Conner, and Lillian Judge.
Services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Robeson Street, Fall River, MA.
