What happened to a town center for Middletown residents?
1: Middletown Town Council negotiated with the “Middletown Center” developer for the 15 acres of open space at W Main/Coddington — a Development Agreement was signed and shared with the public in October 2024.
2: The developer is asking the entire 15 acres of “Public” land be rezoned to “Business” — an open license to do anything there.
3: The developer is also asking the “Future Land Use Map” of the 15 acres be changed in the Middletown Comprehensive Plan: from Public use to Business use — this actually changes the intended future vision of Middletown.
4: The Planning Board reviewed, and received public input on, the developer’s zoning requests — the public overwhelmingly opposes the zoning requests and development proposal (February 5, and April 3, 2025).
5: The Planning Board further reviewed and discussed the developer requests and forwarded recommendations to Town Council (April 24, 2025).
NOW: Town Council is having a special meeting on the “Middletown Center” on JUNE 23, 2025 at 6pm at Gaudet Middle School — the recommendation will be reviewed, and the public can speak. Come fill a seat — not attending is your “vote” to approve the developer’s zoning requests.
