BankNewport Grant Supports Child & Family’s Supportive Housing Program

BankNewport has given $23,000 to Child & Family to help their Supportive Housing Program for homeless families in Rhode Island.

This money will provide stable housing, healthcare access, and financial education for up to 12 families each year.

Child & Family’s program helps about 48 people annually, connecting them with key resources to find permanent homes and improve their overall well-being.

“Our mission is to strengthen families and communities across Rhode Island, and that begins with stable housing,” said Marty Sinnott, President and CEO of Child & Family. “Thanks to BankNewport’s generous support, we can continue to provide the tools and services families need to thrive and avoid deeper involvement in the child welfare system.”

The program offers personalized support, including case management, health services, job and education help, and financial planning classes.

In the last year, the program has housed nine moms and 22 kids, and helped three families move into permanent homes after reaching their self-sufficiency goals.

They’ve also teamed up with local groups like People’s Credit Union for financial and nutrition education.

Looking ahead to 2025, the program aims to help at least eight homeless families each year with case management and housing support. They want 75% of these families to find permanent homes within two years.

The program also plans to get 75% of families involved with DCYF into proven family preservation services. They’re aiming for 80% of participants to keep up with regular healthcare and mental health appointments.

This grant is part of BankNewport’s All In Giving program, which works to strengthen Rhode Island communities through charitable donations.
