PROVIDENCE WELCOMES ATHLETES FOR ICE CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Credit: Thomas Mottl

Rhode Island is hosting a national ice curling championship, bringing 28 teams from across the country to Providence College’s Schneider Arena.

The Grand National Curling Club Arena Club Championship takes place from April 25 to 27, giving spectators a chance to see this winter sport up close.

The Ocean State Curling Club is organizing the event to promote curling and bring together enthusiasts of all ages in Rhode Island.

The competition takes place at Schneider Arena, located at 512 Admiral St. on the Providence College campus.

Organizers want everyone to know that all events are open to the public. They’re encouraging locals and visitors to come experience the precision and strategy of competitive curling.

For those new to the sport, curling involves sliding granite stones across ice towards a target. Teams use brooms to change the ice in front of the stone, affecting how fast and where it goes.

Anyone interested in watching can find more information and the event schedule on the organizers’ website.
