The Newport City Council is gearing up to discuss 24-hour resident-sticker parking on Bridge and Marsh Streets at its upcoming March 12 meeting.

Council members D. Carlin, S. Smyth, and E. Pinnock have proposed a resolution asking the city to establish resident-only parking on Bridge Street from Washington Street to America’s Cup Avenue and the entire length of Marsh Street.

Alongside this, there’s another proposal to make the upper part of Bridge Street a one-way street heading north toward Thames Street.

There’s also a resolution to implement two-hour parking on Broadway, from the corner of Marlborough Street to the coroner of Farewell Street, and on Spring Street, from the corner of Memorial Boulevard to the corner of Pelham Street.

The council has a packed agenda for the meeting, including:

  • A public hearing on the FY2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program
  • Proposed changes to the Zoning Code
  • Several liquor license applications and renewals
  • Special event permits for upcoming community events

They’ll also be looking at appointments to various boards and commissions. This includes new faces for the Historic District Commission and bringing back some familiar ones to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission.

On top of that, the council plans to go over the Aquidneck Island Regional Hazard Mitigation and Flood Management Plan. They’ll also be talking about contracts for sidewalk improvements and building official services.

The regular city council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 12 at City Hall, 43 Broadway, Newport.
