Heads up for those working at or visiting Naval Station Newport: road construction and utility work are starting soon near the Burma Road and Anderson Avenue intersection. This might slow down your commute, so plan accordingly.

The construction is part of the NOAA Maritime Operations Center project. From March 18 to April 4, 2025, parts of Burma Road and Peary Street will be partially closed on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Good news for early birds: the base doesn’t expect much impact on morning traffic. But keep in mind that setting up and packing away materials and equipment at the start and end of each workday might cause some delays.

The base announced on Facebook Monday that flaggers will be stationed at both ends of the work zone to direct traffic through the area during construction.

This work is happening close to the Pier Access Road and Gate 17, which is a key entry point for the naval station.
