Today, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced a weekend lane closure and traffic pattern changes on the Newport Pell Bridge to accommodate construction activities.

  • Beginning on Friday, March 28 at 9:00 AM, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane until Monday, March 31, at 6:00 AM.
  • Beginning Friday evening, March 28, at 6:00 PM, crews will shift the median barrier to create a one-lane-in-each-direction traffic pattern that will remain in place throughout the weekend until Monday, March 31, at 6:00 AM.

“We understand that this project may result in delays, and we appreciate drivers’ patience,” said Lori Caron Silveira, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. “We apologize for any inconvenience and are grateful for everyone’s cooperation as we complete this work.”

Motorists are advised to plan accordingly, expect potential delays, and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
