A car crashed into a commercial building on East Main Road in Middletown on Wednesday afternoon. The crash left the driver with minor injuries and damaged the structure.

Multiple people called 911 to report the incident, prompting the Middletown Fire Department to respond. When they arrived, firefighters found a three-car pileup, with one vehicle having hit the former GameStop store.

According to Fire Chief Robert McCall, the car first hit two parked vehicles before crashing into a large structural column that supports the building’s parapet wall.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Newport Hospital for a checkup. No one else was hurt.

Middletown Engine 2, Rescue 1, and Car 1 were on the scene. The fire department worked with Middletown Police and the town’s Building Inspector to secure the area.

The crash is still under investigation.
