Several Newport County towns are rolling out parking bans this weekend as winter weather moves in.
Middletown, Tiverton, and Portsmouth have all announced temporary parking restrictions ahead of expected snowfall.
In Middletown, the ban kicks in at noon Saturday, Feb. 15, and runs through noon Sunday, Feb. 16. The town wants to make sure public works and emergency crews can do their jobs during the forecasted storm.
Tiverton’s ban starts at 4 p.m. Saturday and lasts until 2 p.m. Sunday.
Portsmouth is enforcing restrictions from 6 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.
The National Weather Service says there’s a chance of snow mainly after 3 p.m. Saturday, but little to no accumulation is expected at first. Things are set to get worse Saturday night, though.
The forecast calls for snow before midnight, then a mix of rain and snow between midnight and 2 a.m., switching to just rain after that. We could see 1 to 3 inches of new snow.
Sunday’s looking wet, with rain throughout the day and possible precipitation between 1 and 2 inches. Winds might gust up to 25 mph.
