A man has received the Civilian Lifesaving Award from the Portsmouth Police Department after preventing a potential tragedy on the Mt. Hope Bridge.
Brian Finn was driving across the bridge on January 7, 2024, when he noticed a woman trying to climb over the railing. He immediately stopped his car and rushed to help her.
Finn held onto the woman until police arrived, allowing them to secure her and provide needed assistance safely. The police department says the woman had been dealing with serious health issues.
On Wednesday, Chief Peters presented Finn with the Civilian Lifesaving Award at the Portsmouth police station to recognize his brave and selfless actions.
The Portsmouth Police Department shared the news on Facebook, saying, “Thank you, Mr. Finn, for your act of courage.”
