Newport seniors and people with disabilities are getting a convenient way to access RIPTA’s Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program in 2025. The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is bringing its services directly to Newport, with three visits planned throughout the year.

RIPTA’s Customer Service team will be on-site to process Photo ID bus passes for those who qualify. This initiative aims to make transit information and reduced fare applications more accessible to residents in both rural and urban areas, without the need to travel to Providence.

Mark your calendars for these Newport visits:

  • January 16 at William Donovan Manor
  • March 6 at Edward King House
  • July 10 back at William Donovan Manor

Each session runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., giving residents plenty of time to learn about RIPTA services and complete their applications.

The Photo ID bus passes, good for two years, will cost $10 in 2025.

Can’t make it to these local sessions? No problem. Newport residents can still apply at RIPTA’s Photo ID Office in Kennedy Plaza, Providence. The office is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.

RIPTA also accepts applications by mail and online. For more information about qualifying, call 401-784-9500, ext. 2012 or visit RIPTA.com/ReducedFare.
