Rhode Island’s Governor Dan McKee is pushing for a new Culinary and Hospitality Hub at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport Campus. This initiative is part of his budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year.
The plan calls for $850,000 in capital funds to be spread over the next two fiscal years, according to the budget’s executive summary. The Newport Campus is seen as a prime spot for this hub, given its “location in one of the state’s premier tourism destinations”.
This money will go towards creating the necessary space and buying equipment for the training program. The goal is to give students practical, hands-on experience and teach them skills specific to the industry.
