The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center (The JPT) recently announced that it will host an extended run of Searchlight Pictures’ highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, from December 26, 2024 – January 9, 2025.
“Newport has always had a special place in Bob Dylan’s story, so it’s only fitting that we bring this extraordinary film to our community,” said Kathy Staab, President and Owner of The JPT. “We’re excited to celebrate Dylan’s legacy with our audience in this historic setting.”
Bob Dylan’s connection to Newport is legendary. From his groundbreaking performances at the Newport Folk Festival to the unforgettable moment in 1965 when he famously “went electric,” his ties to Rhode Island are as enduring as his impact on music.
For The JPT, hosting this movie for an extended run is both an honor and a nod to Newport’s rich cultural history.
“This is not just a movie; it’s a piece of history, a tribute to an artist who has left an indelible mark on our culture. We’re thrilled to bring people together for this unforgettable cinematic experience,” said Alex Whitney, General Manager of The JPT.
On Thursday, December 21, The JPT will host a sold-out advanced screening of the film, four days ahead of its national Christmas release date.

The film has already been nominated for three Golden Globes: Best Picture Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
Bob Dylan himself has also weighed in on the film and the “fiasco at Newport.”
There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah…
