Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, is heading to the U.S. Naval War College in Newport on December 16-17, 2024.
According to an email from the U.S. Department of State, Jenkins will participate in the 11th Annual Women, Peace, and Security Symposium, where she’ll discuss how women play a key role in advancing U.S. security interests.
Jenkins also joins a panel examining Women, Peace, and Security in today’s competitive global landscape.
Jenkins has been in her current role since July 22, 2021. She oversees three important bureaus: Arms Control, Deterrence and Stability; International Security and Nonproliferation; and Political-Military Affairs.

As Under Secretary, she oversees three bureaus: the Arms Control, Deterrence and Stability Bureau; the International Security and Nonproliferation Bureau (ISN); and the Political-Military Affairs Bureau.
Jenkins is the first African American to serve as an Under Secretary of State.
