Newport’s getting an exclusive look at HBO’s “YACHT ROCK: A DOCKUMENTARY” on November 21 at Newport Classical’s Recital Hall.

newportFILM is hosting this one-night-only screening, giving locals a sneak peek at the film that dives into the soft rock craze of the late ’70s and early ’80s.

The documentary features big names like Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, and Toto members. It also brings in modern artists such as Thundercat, Questlove, and Mac DeMarco for their take on the genre.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for some pre-show fun, including yacht rock trivia, prizes, and a specially curated playlist. If you’re hungry, 401 Food Shack will be there selling food and drinks.

This event isn’t just about the music – it’s also raising funds for newportFILM. Attendees can enter a raffle for a chance to win a week-long stay at a WIMCO Villa in St. Barth, complete with roundtrip flights on TRADEWIND.

newportFILM describes the documentary as a look into “the emergence and popularity of the late 1970s and early 1980s West Coast, soft rock pop culture.”

Tickets are $15 and available on newportFILM’s website. The film starts at 7:15 p.m.

Discover Newport is backing the event as part of newportFILM’s indoor screening program.
