Tiverton Public Library

The Tiverton Public Library is offering a diverse range of programs for adults throughout November, including book clubs, craft groups, film screenings, and more.

Patrons can participate in recurring programs like the weekly Watercolor Group, meeting Tuesdays from November 12th to 26th from 12:30-2:30 pm, and the monthly Craft Circle, convening on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:00-8:00 pm. Both groups provide a space for enthusiasts to socialize and work on their personal projects.

The library will host several book discussions this month. The Tiverton Public Library Book Group will discuss Clare Pooley’s “The Authenticity Project” on Friday, November 8th at 10:30 am OR Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00 pm. The Union Public Library Book Group will be discussing “The Titanic Survivors Book Club” by Timothy Schaffert on Thursday, November 21st at 1:00 pm at the Union Public Library. Additionally, Bajah’s Book Club will be discussing “Sneaky Pie for President” by Rita Mae Brown and “Sneaky Pie Brown” at Bajah’s Cat Café on Monday, November 18th at 12:30 pm.

The library will host a screening of Cycle of Memory, a documentary about two siblings’ bicycle adventure to find the memories their grandfather lost to Alzheimer’s. The library will host a free screening of the documentary “Cycle of Memory,” followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, on Friday, November 8th from 2:30-4:30 pm. A screening of Charlie Chaplin’s classic film “The Gold Rush,” with live musical accompaniment by Richard Hughes, will take place on Wednesday, November 13th from 6:00-8:00 pm. On Tuesday, November 19th, at 5:30pm, the library will partner with the Tiverton Arts Council to present Art House Film Night, which will feature a screening and discussion of “Frida” (2002; Rated R; 2h, 3min).

Other program highlights include a Poetry Workshop on Thursday, November 14th, and a Prepare to Care session for family caregivers on Saturday, November 16th.

Meet us by the picnic tables at Bulgarmarsh Park for a leisurely walk around the path and an informal chat about what you’ve been reading and watching lately.

Craft Circle

Knitters, quilters, crafters – whatever you make, come craft with us in the Community Room on the first Wednesday of every month! Socialize with fellow crafters, get project ideas, and share tips and advice. Must bring your own projects and supplies.

Cycle of Memory – Free Documentary Screening and Director Q&A

Join the Tiverton Public Library and Tiverton Senior Center for a special, intergenerational screening of Cycle of Memory, the new award-winning documentary about two siblings’ bicycle adventure to find the memories their grandfather lost to Alzheimer’s. The film is 72 minutes long and will be followed by a Q+A with the filmmaker! Refreshments will be provided.

Sakonnet Writers Group

This is a drop-in, prompt-driven writing group that supports writers of all levels. Membership is free, open to the public, and is appropriate for writers aged 18 and older. We look forward to sharing stories with you!

Whether you are a seasoned pro or still learning, you are welcome to come and work on your own watercolor painting projects. This is not a class, but a space to paint and socialize with fellow enthusiasts. Must bring your own projects and supplies.

Did you know you can borrow telescopes, sports equipment, tools, and games from the library? Curious about these items? Then join us for this special showcase on Tuesday, November 12th, at 3:00pm! Play Nintendo, scan 35-mm negatives, watch a movie on a portable DVD player, or listen to music with our Bluetooth speaker. You may check out an item that very day!

Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush with Live Musical Accompaniment

Watch this 1925 classic film, in which Charlie Chaplin plays a prospector who goes to the Klondike during the 1890s gold rush in hopes of making his fortune and is smitten with a girl he sees in a dance hall. Richard Hughes will provide some background on the film and then accompany the film on the piano as we enjoy this silent treasure.

Poetry Workshop

Learn how to develop your poetry’s power, move an audience with your poem, prepare a superior poetry submission, and increase your chances of getting published. Space is limited; registration is required.

Saturday, November 16th, 2:00-3:00pm

Prepare to Care

No matter where you are in the journey of family caregiving—just beginning to anticipate a need, helping coordinate a big move, or taking care of a family member full-time—this session will provide a framework to help guide both you and your loved one to make the process easier. There will be opportunity to connect with other family caregivers, exchange tips and advice, and learn about resources available to you and your loved ones.

This month, we will watch and discuss Frida (2002; Rated R; 2h, 3min). A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work. Presented in partnership with the Tiverton Arts Council. Refreshments will be provided.
