The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is expanding its recall of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, originally announced on October 9th, due to potential Listeria contamination. The recall now includes approximately 11,765,285 pounds of products distributed nationwide.
The affected items were produced by BrucePac from May 31st to October 8th, 2024, and bear establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to various establishments and distributors and then distributed to restaurants, schools, and institutions.
While there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, consumption of Listeria-contaminated food can cause listeriosis, a serious infection particularly affecting older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, convulsions, and more. In severe cases, listeriosis can be fatal.
Restaurants, institutions, and schools are advised not to serve or use these products, and consumers should discard or return them.
