Representative Lauren Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport).

As a four-year Newport resident I worry about the climate crisis and the threats of catastrophic  storm damage and coastal flooding. Representative Lauren Carson is an effective leader in the  battle against climate change.

1. In 2021 as lead sponsor of the Act On Climate, she led efforts in the House to pass  landmark legislation that commits the state to carbon neutrality by 2050, helping her to  earn an A+ on the Environmental Council of Rhode Island’s Green Report Card.

2. This year she co-sponsored the Act on Coasts, requiring the state’s Chief Resiliency Officer  to assess the state’s sea-level rise risks and create and oversee a plan to address them.

3. Lauren Carson also co-sponsored a bill that bans toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” from  many consumer products and firefighting foam.

4. As second vice chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee and an  assistant majority leader she has a strong voice to advocate for climate-related legislation.  She has excellent working relationships with legislators in both the House and Senate.

Much work remains to address the climate crisis. Please join me in voting for Lauren Carson in  the general election so she may continue her important work.
