According to the City of Newport, Dixon Street between Thames and Spring Streets will be reversed for motor vehicle traffic beginning November 1.

Motorists are advised that new directional signage is being added, and road striping will be done before the change.

Traffic traveling toward Bellevue Avenue or Spring Street that originates from Thames Street or Wellington Avenue will be re-routed to alternate routes, including Narragansett Avenue.

For residents who live on Dixon Street, parking will remain in place without change.

The new directional pattern follows a vote by the City Council earlier in the month and is intended to help calm traffic and reduce volume on one of the Yachting Village’s more narrow roadways.
