The Yes on 4 Coalition, a group of environmental organizations, is preparing to launch a campaign to support the $53 million Green Bond, which will appear as Question 4 on the ballot in November.

The Yes on 4 Coalition said the bond, if approved, would fund projects to restore the environment, including forests, expand outdoor recreation opportunities, and preserve farmland.

Gov. Dan McKee and Speaker Joseph Shekarchi are scheduled to speak at a press conference at the Save The Bay Center in Providence on Friday, Sept. 13, outlining the importance of investing in Rhode Island’s natural resources.

“The health of our lands, waters, and communities is central to our environment and supports our way of life in Rhode Island,” states a press release from the coalition. “The value of Rhode Island’s network of green spaces, outdoor recreational areas, ports and waterways goes beyond beautiful places and recreational opportunities for public enjoyment. This network is important to the state’s economy and ability to attract people and businesses.”

The Yes on 4 Coalition includes numerous environmental organizations, including the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Clean Water Action, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, The Nature Conservancy, and the Rhode Island Farm Bureau.

“The network is important to the state’s economy and ability to attract people and businesses,” McKee said. “They are central to our very way of life as Rhode Islanders, and deserves our support on November 5.”
