newportFILM announced today that SECRET MALL APARTMENT has been voted the audience favorite for this year’s BankNewport Audience Award. This critically acclaimed documentary follows eight Rhode Island artists who created a secret apartment in the Providence Place Mall and concluded newportFILM’s Outdoors series, screening for thousands on the lawn at the Elms in Newport on September 5th.

Residents of the SECRET MALL APARTMENT, Michael Townsend and Andrew Oesch, joined the film’s director, Jeremy Workman, and others for a lively post-film conversation moderated by the Boston Globe’s Dan McGowan.

The BankNewport Audience Award is presented annually to the film receiving the most audience votes during the newportFILM Outdoors series. Screening ten films on Aquidneck Island from June to September at ever-changing, iconic outdoor locations, the newportFILM Outdoors series is a summertime anchor in the Newport community, showcasing a curated selection of the best new documentaries in 2024.
