Discover Newport today announced that the newly established bus service between Boston and Newport will continue into the fall season.

The service began this summer in partnership with DATTCO. The bus line runs between Boston South Station Terminal and the Newport Transportation Center, Friday – Monday twice a day. Originally scheduled to end September 9, the service will now continue through November 11, with the potential of continuing further into the year based on ridership numbers that will be evaluated late October. The bus holds 52 passengers and has a fare of $30 one way.

“We have seen steady growth since the start of the service. The ridership has increased nearly 30% in just the first two months of the program,” said Evan Smith, President & CEO of Discover Newport. “The fall season is a beautiful time of year to explore The Classic Coast with festivals, pumpkin patches, coastal breezes, and this service has made it even easier to access both great cities for visitors and locals alike.”

“We are thrilled to see the success of this program, one that we had been considering since DATTCO entered the Rhode Island market in 2022. Our ridership is growing and we’re receiving great feedback, that’s the best we could ask for,” said Dennis Lyons, Vice President of DATTCO.

“For a little context, my family is from Newport and I’ve been living in Boston for college, and now for work. Getting home has always been a challenge. I’m so thankful for the direct Boston to Newport bus, it’s been a lifesaver for me. It’s so convenient and takes so much stress away from traveling home to see my family,” frequent rider Hailey commented.
