Rhode Island KIDS COUNT released new data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey (ACS) today.

The report found that in 2023, 13.4% of Rhode Island’s children lived in poverty, ranking the state 21st in the U.S. and last in New England on this measure.

The report also found that in 2023, 3.25% of Rhode Island children under age 19 did not have health insurance, with 96.75% of children covered overall, ranking the state 10th among all states and fourth in New England for children’s health insurance coverage.

Rhode Island KIDS COUNT is a statewide children’s policy organization that works to improve the health, economic well-being, safety, education, and development of Rhode Island children with a core focus on equity.
