The Middletown Town Council is considering a proposal to restore the second free seasonal beach parking pass for residents, which was eliminated four years ago amid concerns about long wait times.
The proposal was discussed Tuesday night during a meeting in Town Hall by Town Council President Paul Rodrigues and Councilor Barbara VonVillas. They noted that the town has created an efficient parking system for residents and set aside enough parking spaces to ensure that locals can park in time, even during the busiest times.
Councilor Barbara VonVillas, who said she wasn’t a “beach” person, focused on providing services for residents. The town estimates that 8,400 seasonal beach passes were sold during the 2024 summer, with 4,028 of those passes being purchased by residents.
The cost of the second free pass, which would be available only to residents, is $90. The town has not tracked how many households purchased a second seasonal pass this summer.
