The James L. Maher Center Garden Center will host a free soil testing event on Saturday, September 14, in collaboration with URI Master Gardeners, to provide residents with a free check of their soil health.

Soil testing will take place from 10 am to 12 pm at the newly restored Founder’s Garden at the Maher Garden Center located at 910 Aquidneck Ave in Middletown.

Sampling Instructions: Use a trowel to collect 8 ounces of soil from several spots in the same area (e.g. lawn, flower bed). Mix the soil from these spots together, and spread the soil out on a piece of newspaper or a paper plate to allow it to dry. Pour one cup of the mixed soil into a clean plastic or paper bag. Label the bag with your name and the garden area from which it came.
