Dear Middletown Voters,
I am very disappointed that I will not be able to attend the Middletown Town Council candidate forum hosted by Newport This Week due to a work conflict. I hope in the future, the organizers of this forum can reach out to each candidate before scheduling. I think it is important for voters to see all candidates on stage together, before they cast their vote.
I am extremely honored to be running for Town Council in Middletown, a town my family has called home for over sixteen years. My wife grew up in Newport, all our children were born here at Newport Hospital, two Middletown High School graduates, and one more with four years to go. We love Middletown, and to be honest, we never want to leave.
For several years, I have been happy to volunteer many hours as a youth sports coach, with local churches and community organizations, as Co-Chair of the Middletown Public Schools Building Committee, and currently as a member of the Affordable Housing Committee. One thing is obvious to me: if you want to make a difference in your community, you must get involved, and you must speak up.
Middletown is at a crucial point in its history. We risk losing the very fabric that drew us all to this amazing place, and we need to make sure our leaders are truly listening to our concerns and needs. That is not something I have experienced, and I have heard similar stories from several of you. I have been speaking up, and will continue to do so, because I think our Town is worth it. I think we can do better.
If elected, I want to make sure all feel welcome to participate in Town government, and that transparency is the norm, not a request. I want to tackle our complex housing issues, especially for our senior citizens and young families. I want to execute true tax reform; and solve traffic and safety issues on a regional basis. I want to support our schools to benefit our students first and foremost. We have a new Superintendent, new schools, enough of the public fighting, time to make MPS the best in the State.
I want to be a candidate that listens, and makes educated, well thought out decisions based on facts. I want to be YOUR candidate, YOUR voice and YOUR Town Councilor. Please register to vote, and please consider voting for me. I can be reached any time at Charlie4MDL@gmail.com or visit my website at www.Charlie4MDL.com.
Thank you,
Charles (Charlie) R Roberts, Candidate for Middletown Town Council
