The Whitehouse for Senate campaign today released Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s remarks from a fundraising event last week in Newport featuring vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

According to Whitehouse, the packed crowd was fired up to hear from Governor Walz after Sheldon delivered the following remarks:

“I want us to think about and thank the man who made this all possible by making one of the most brave, and selfless, and consequential decisions that have been made in American politics.  And that is our President of the United States.

“I want to see the roof come off that convention when he speaks on Monday and those of you who are there, I hope will help.

“Now it’s really important to make sure that President Harris and Vice President Walz are our future – and not ‘weird’ and ‘weirder’ Donald Trump and JD Vance.

“But what we really need to do is to win the trifecta.  Because if President Harris has to contend with MAGA crazies in the House, or mischief makers in the Senate, it’s gonna be a very different Harris presidency.  We need to win the trifecta.

“What do we do when we win the trifecta?  We get rid of poisonous, rotten dark money so that billionaires aren’t running our politics through front groups.  We make a new morning for integrity in governance in America.

“And we punch through the wall of corruption that the corrupting fossil fuel industry has built, and we complete the work on a pathway to climate safety.  We create a new morning for our climate in America.

“And last of all, particularly with a Democratic House, with Seth and Gabe in the majority, and with House subpoenas that Senate presidents can’t filibuster: we get to the bottom of what the hell went on at the Supreme Court.   And when that whole story is out, we do what it takes to clean up that Supreme Court and create a new morning in America for judicial integrity.

“So, as somebody might say, this election is not going to fall out of a coconut tree.  We’re going to have to work for it.  The creepy billionaires and their front groups, and the dirty money and the negative ads – that’s all going to come, and we’ve got to stand together and we’ve got to fight through this.  But it is going to be worth it.

“Thank you for being here.  Thank you for the support for the Vice President.  And I now have the great pleasure of turning over this microphone to the leader of our Rhode Island congressional delegation, the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and my friend and your friend, Jack Reed.”
