Andrew G. Douglas 61 of Portsmouth, RI who was born March 25, 1963 in Newton MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 1, 2024. He was the son of the late Stuart T. and Barbara (Grosset) Douglas. Andrew courageously battled ALS in which he exhibited remarkable strength and resilience and served as an inspiration to those close to him.
Andrew was a cherished, kind, humorous and loving husband, father, brother, and friend. His spirited and cheerful nature touched many lives leaving a legacy of warmth and positivity. He is survived by his wife Jane, daughters Virginia and Sophie, sister June Diffenbach of Concord, MA, and brother Stuart T Douglas, Jr. of Barrington, RI. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Alec Douglas.
The places Andrew called home while growing up were Sherborn, MA, Naples, FL, and Little Compton, RI. He always loved being near the water spending time sailing, scuba diving, water-skiing, and windsurfing. He had a passion for running and 5ks, playing golf, and beach-going. Andrew found joy in the summertime at home in Rhode Island which he treasured. A 1982 graduate of Lawrence Academy, Andrew continued his education at Southern Methodist University, Dallas TX where he earned his BFA. Andrew always had a knack and genuine interest in all things technical and was considered the “go-to” person in the family for any tech issues. His career of 25 years in IT was a perfect fit. He last worked at RDSI, North Kingstown, where he was highly regarded for his professionalism, dedication, and skill as an IT Manager and ISSM. Andrew was also a talented photographer who loved to photograph nature, the ocean, and his family. The family is fortunate to be left with countless memories from these photos and albums.
The family will be gathering privately for Andrew’s Celebration of Life. In honor of his memory the family kindly requests that donations be made to ALS United Rhode Island whose support was invaluable during his journey. Andrew will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
