Newport Mental Health is relocating its adult programs, walk-in appointments, and business staff to a newly renovated space at 42 Valley Road, effective Aug. 26.

The move, which Newport Mental Health announced on its website, marks a significant expansion for the organization, driven by increased demand for services and new programs.

The mental health provider has operated its adult programs and walk-in services from 127 Johnny Cake Hill Road for several decades. However, the organization recognized two years ago that the space was no longer sufficient for its growing needs.

Dayna Gladstein, President & CEO of Newport Mental Health, explains, “With the new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) federal designation, we’ve not only seen a significant increase in demand for our services, but we are adding new programs, leading us to expand our operations at 42 Valley Road.”

The relocation involves extensive renovations to the former bank building at 42 Valley Road. The second floor and the east side of the first floor have undergone initial renovations, transforming them into inviting and supportive office and therapy spaces for clinical teams and their clients.

David Boscia, Chief Clinical Officer, emphasizes the benefits of the new environment: “Our new therapy spaces are not only more welcoming but are also specifically designed to enhance the client experience. Both our clinicians and clients will greatly benefit from this new environment.”

The Children’s Center, already housed at 42 Valley Road, remains in its location on the west side of the building. It awaits Phase Two renovations scheduled for 2025, which will depend on community support. A team of dedicated local community leaders has been recruited to spearhead the capital efforts for this next phase.

The move reflects Newport Mental Health’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its clients and the community. The organization provides walk-in hours for both children and adults, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Walk-in services for adults will begin at the new Valley Road location on Aug. 23, coinciding with the official closure of the Johnny Cake Hill Road office. Newport Mental Health services at other locations remain unaffected by the move.

For those requiring immediate assistance, emergency services are available 24/7 by calling the helpline at (401) 846-1213, option 1. This line is answered around the clock directly by clinical staff, ensuring an immediate and professional response to urgent mental health needs.

The relocation and expansion come at a time when mental health services are increasingly in demand. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of accessible mental health care, and organizations like Newport Mental Health are adapting to meet these growing needs.

The CCBHC designation, which has contributed to Newport Mental Health’s growth, is part of a federal initiative to expand Americans’ access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment. This designation allows the organization to offer a comprehensive range of services and receive enhanced funding to support its operations.

As Newport Mental Health embarks on this new chapter, the organization continues to rely on community support. The success of future renovations and expansions will depend on the generosity and involvement of local residents and businesses, underscoring the collaborative nature of mental health care in the Newport area.
