The last days of summer are upon us, so why not celebrate with a free outdoor concert in one of the most beautiful waterfront parks in Rhode Island?

Alasdair MacKenzie, Chris Haley, and Liz Kantor formed Hush Club after finding each other in college. These days they are based in Somerville, MA, making lush, melodic, and propulsive indie rock that examines the nuances of our shared human experience. Under the Radar describes Hush Club as “explor[ing] spaces ranging from intimate to celestial, evoking honest confessions and wide expanses.” Their latest single, “Movie,” has lyrics that might make you cry if you weren’t too busy dancing to it.

Earlier this year, Hush Club sold out a headlining show at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall with rave reviews. The band has been featured twice in The Boston Globe and been nominated twice for the Boston Music Awards (Album/EP of the Year and Folk Artist of the Year). Hush Club has opened for national and international touring acts including Will Leet, French Cassettes, Hermitage Green, Michael Seyer, and Wabie, and the band’s debut album Fingerprints & Stains was praised by Glide Magazine, Vanyaland, and Boston Hassle, in addition to the Under the Radar writeup quoted above. Fingerprints & Stains also received extensive airplay on college radio, charting as the #5 debut album on the NACC
200 in its first week and staying on the chart for three weeks.

The afternoon of live music begins with Donnie Aikins, Matt Kowalski, Eri Pendragon, and Evan Wood’s “Contrafact”, an innovative jazz band that redefines the boundaries of modern jazz through their unique approach to musical reinterpretation. Contrafact specializes in
performing compositions and arrangements based on classic jazz themes, set to make an impact on the jazz scene with their inventive style.

NIMFest, short for Newport Independent Music Festival, has become a favorite summer concert series in Newport, celebrating local and regional artists in a family-friendly atmosphere. The event is free and open to the public, inviting music lovers across Rhode Island to enjoy an afternoon of live music in one of Newport’s most scenic parks.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor concert experience fully. The public is encouraged to carpool as parking is limited. Alcohol is not permitted in the park. All concerts are scheduled for 3pm to 6pm with the possibility of rain dates in September, if necessary.

The free outdoor concert series is made possible by the City of Newport, New England Music Organization and North End Entertainment, thanks to a generous gift from the Hamilton Family Foundation.
