Joseph F. Maghuyop, 39, of Middletown, passed away peacefully Friday July 26th, 2024, surrounded by his family at Boston Mass General hospital, in Mass.

Born on August 3rd, 1984, in Houston, TX, he was the son of Maryann (Alves) Maghuyop of Middletown and the late Teddy Maghuyop.

He was a devoted dad to his beautiful sons, Christian, Hadyn, Gabriel and Anthony. He adored his children despite not living near them. He loved to share bedtime prayers and loved to talk and share his knowledge of history, zoology and was constantly counseling and nurturing their inquisitive minds. He was an avid reader, and he loved to share his knowledge with his family. He loved his Portuguese heritage and culture. He loved his church, volunteered in the kitchen, feeding the poor in Providence. He was very generous and kind to anyone that was less fortunate.

Joseph attended New England Tech for two years, studied auto mechanics to fulfill his passion of Automobiles. He also loved craftsmanship work. He loved carpentry, crafts, and dreamed of having his own shop. Unfortunately, his poor health was a hindrance to his dreams.

He also was a good brother to Luis Mateos and his wife Jen O’Neil of Portsmouth, and Teddy Maghuyop of Middletown. Joseph was also the nephew of Joseph Alves of Middletown, Louis Alves of Portsmouth and Connie Caetano and her spouse Henrique of Middletown. He was the beloved cousin of Johnny Caetano and his spouse Maggie of Portsmouth. Cindy Medeiros of Tiverton, Henrique Caetano of New Jersey and Austin and Andrew Alves. He was also a beloved uncle to his two nieces and two nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 6, at 10:00am in St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
