With the cannabis industry expected to grow significantly in the coming years, the Community College of Rhode Island (CCI) has announced the launch of its new Cannabis Training Program.
This program aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in the cannabis industry. It will be an eight-week program, funded by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training’s Real Jobs RI initiative. The program will start on July 9, 2024, and will be conducted online and in person.
The program will be taught by industry experts and will include information on the growth and development of the cannabis industry, the skills needed for success in the industry, and the applicable regulations. Students will also have the opportunity to visit local cannabis businesses and receive employment assistance.
The pilot cohort program has a total cost of $1 million and will enroll 15 students. Those interested in participating can apply online. The program is “equitable and accessible to those from communities that have been impacted by the criminalization of cannabis,” according to CCRI Director of Industry Partnerships Stacy Sullivan.
The launch of this program is a clear indication of the growing interest in the cannabis industry in Rhode Island. With new jobs expected to double in the state between 2022 and 2023, there is a high demand for workers with skills in this emerging industry. The CCRI Cannabis Training Program offers a comprehensive and up-to-date training, which will help students set themselves up for success in the cannabis industry.
