The Potter League for Animals, known for its compassionate approach to animal welfare, has stepped in to aid Pawtucket Animal Control in the aftermath of a significant hoarding case on Senate Street. On Thursday, April 11, 2024, ten dogs were safely transported from the Pawtucket Animal Shelter and entrusted to the care of the Potter League.

Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, the Potter League proactively contacted Pawtucket Animal Control to offer support and additional resources. Upon their arrival at the Potter League’s Animal Care & Adoption Center, the dogs must be shaved entirely because of their severe matting and undergo comprehensive veterinary examinations. Tragically, many of the animals exhibited severe matting, resulting in open sores and wounds due to prolonged neglect.

“Our priority is to provide these dogs with the immediate medical attention and care they so desperately need,” stated the Potter League for Animals CEO, Brad Shear. “Our dedicated animal care and veterinary teams are working tirelessly to diagnose and treat the dog’s health concerns, to prepare them for new loving homes.”

While the dogs’ medical and behavioral assessments are ongoing, the Potter League cannot estimate when they will be ready for adoption. “We are committed to ensuring that each dog receives the tailored support and rehabilitation required to thrive in their new homes,” added Brad Shear.

As the Potter League continues to provide updates on the progress of these resilient animals, they encourage the community to follow their journey and consider supporting their ongoing care and recovery efforts.
