On Tuesday afternoon, Newport Fire Department and mutual aid responded to a brush fire on Third Street between Admiral Kalbfus Road and Van Zandt Avenue.

According to the Professional Firefighters of Newport RI Local 1080 Instagram account, a third alarm was struck for the brush fire.

Several local streets were closed while crews worked on extinguished the fire. St. John’s Church also opened as a shelter for anyone who needed it.

Update: At 6:47 pm, Newport Police Department announced that the fire has been extinguished.
