The Jamestown Arts Center will host a reading event on Saturday, April 20, featuring four acclaimed poets, including Rhode Island Poet Laureate Tina Cane.

The event, “Celebrating National Poetry Month,” will feature readings from Lillian-Yvonne Bertram, Tina Cane, Colin Channer, and Michael Klein. The poets will read from their selected works, followed by introductions by Jared White, co-owner of Berl’s Brooklyn Poetry Shop.

The event “will be a convergence of voices and perspectives through the work of,” according to the Jamestown Arts Center.

Berm is a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellow and an African American writer, poet, artist, and educator. Cane is the current Rhode Island Poet Laureate, a position she has held since 2016. As part of her role, she has created the state’s first youth poetry ambassador program, which pairs young people with the Rhode Island Center for the Book.

Channer is the former Rhode Island Poet Laureate, serving in that role from 2000 to 2007. He is also the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Literary Arts at Brown University.

Klein is a two-time Lambda Literary Award recipient for poetry and a lifelong educator currently teaching for College Unbound.

The event is $5 per person and tickets are available at the Jamestown Arts Center website.
