On April 19, 2024, a Newport County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Jose Vega, 52, of Newport, Rhode Island, with five counts of first-degree child molestation.

According to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, the alleged acts occurred in the Town of Portsmouth on diverse dates between May 2, 2012, and May 2, 2017. The Portsmouth Police Department conducted the investigation.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned in Newport County Superior Court on April 25, 2024.

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
