Newport’s Miantonomi Park is now bursting into a vibrant sea of yellow as over 38,000 daffodils bloom for the first time. To celebrate their arrival, the entire Newport community is invited to “head north” this Sunday, April 14, for an afternoon of daffy, delirious, and delicious fun.
The festivities kick off at noon at the north end of Miantonomi Park off Hillside Avenue. Attendees can expect a “bouquet” of free activities to enjoy, including:
• Daffy Bike Decorating Contest and Parade: Take part in the whimsical procession along Bike Newport’s new Traffic Garden, showcasing the daffiest bikes in town. Prizes await the most creatively adorned bicycles.
• The Daffy Dust-Up!: Get your free commemorative white T-shirt and prepare to be blasted with daffy colors as you navigate through the daffy maze.
• Daffy Pie Slam-Down: Put your hands behind your back, then dive face down into your “daffy delight” to capture that elusive gummy worm at the bottom.
• Happy “snaps” among the Daffodils: Find the perfect spot for capturing a treasured photo amidst the thousands of bright daffodils, boasting the largest field in Newport.
In addition to these lively activities, there will be African drum music, storytelling, food trucks, face painting, crafts by Cutie Curls, an opportunity to climb the historic tower, and more, ensuring an afternoon of free daffy fun for both young and old alike.
