$1 million raised and counting….
As of 11 a.m. today, 401Gives had already generated $1,029,098 for hundreds of Rhode Island-based nonprofits in support of the essential programs they bring to our communities. A flurry of gifts pushed the effort beyond the impressive milestone just five hours after 401Gives kicked off its fifth year. For 2024, United Way has set the day’s goal at raising $4 million.
So far, more than 4,200 donors have made gifts to 531 different nonprofits. Among the organizations feeling the generous love of the community are the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center at $54,610; Foster Forward with $51,651, and School One at $30,255.
From the very start at 6 a.m. this morning, 401Gives has seen tremendous activity. A special $25,000 matching gift opportunity presented by Rhode Island Foundation was met in less than 15 seconds, and a number of cash prize drawings were pulled by 9 a.m. for eligible nonprofits that had secured gifts from donors new to their organizations. More matches and prizes are planned throughout the day.
“Year after year I am floored with how Rhode Islanders continue to take their generosity to new levels on behalf of the organizations that not only are important to them, but important to everyone who calls this great state home,” said Cortney Nicolato, United Way’s president and CEO. “And we’re nowhere near done…there’s still plenty of 401Gives left.”
Powered by United Way and led by the newly launched statewide Alliance, 401Gives brings people together to support hundreds of nonprofits that provide vital programs and services to our communities every day. The unified day of giving utilizes an online giving platform and harnesses the power of social media and peer-to-peer outreach to lift up the essential work of Rhode Island’s nonprofit sector.
By visiting 401Gives.org, donors can easily make a gift to any one of the 600+ Rhode Island-based organizations participating in this year’s effort. Donors can also search for nonprofits based on cause, community, and zip code.
