GoProvidence, The Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau, today announced a tournament-style matchup that pits thirty-two movies filmed in Rhode Island against one another.
“While the Providence College Friars may have been snubbed in this year’s NCAA tournament, fans can still root for their hometown favorite in GoProvidence’s next tournament bracket,” GoProvidence shared in a press release. “This year, we’re rolling out the red carpet for the “Lights! Camera! Ocean State Matchup.” Following the raging success of the 2023 “Rhode Island Personalities Matchup,” we have chosen 32 movies filmed in Rhode Island, or set in Rhode Island – and we’re leaving it up to YOU to choose the champion”.
Several notable films have been shot in locations throughout Rhode Island, and many others are set here. With the most recent star-studded cast of “Ella McCay” filming in town, the “Lights! Camera! Ocean State Matchup”, GoProvidence says this is the perfect opportunity to highlight some of the state’s cinematic history, have some fun, and vote for the champion!
Will “Good Burger 2” make the cut? Is “Underdog” a box office flop? Which Farrelly Brothers film will make it to the final round? Will “Vault” go home empty-handed? GoProvidence says that it’s up to you to decide! Vote using the link on their social media or on our website. Be sure to check back regularly, as the winner of each matchup will advance to the next round. Round 1 voting opens on March 20.
GoProvidence plans to announce the tournament champion on April 4.
