The Jamestown Arts Center will screen the Motion State Dance Film Series, New England’s only short film festival dedicated to celebrating contemporary dance on film. The film series takes place on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Jamestown Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for General Admission and $8 for JAC Members, Students, and Seniors available at jamestownartcenter.org.
The Motion State Dance Film Series showcases the diversity of contemporary dance on film through eight short films, followed by a Q+A with the project curators Ali Kenner Brodsky and Andy Russ.
Among the standout films to be screened is “Hello Again,” produced by The Âme Project, directed and choreographed by Idy Vandepas, which explores the theme of reconnecting with one’s inner child. Another film, “Forbidden,” by Wandering Avians Dance Experience (WADE), delves into the experiences of female dancers in Iran, where dancing for women is illegal. The film follows the journey of Niousha Goudarzi, a 22-year-old dancer, as she manages to learn and dance despite the conflicts she faces.
This seasons films feature artists from around the globe and each offer unique insights into the intersection of dance and cinematic expression:
- “Forbidden” with Niusha Goudarzi (Iran)
- “Old Man At The Corner Store” by Nadav Heyman (US)
- “Foujita Foujita” with Mayumi Lashbrook (Canada)
- “Ready-to-wear solos | Stacey Désilier” by Karine Ledoyen and Eliot Laprise (Canada)
- “Moth” by Kate Weare and Jack Flame Sorokin (US)
- “The Game” by Jamie Carabetta (US)
- “Hello Again” by Idalmy Vandepas-Carcache (US)
- to be near you by Ali Kenner Brodsky (US)
The film run time is approximately 60 minutes, followed by Q+A.
