The Town of Middletown has announced the installation of new lifesaving equipment at the Gaudet Athletic Complex on Turner Road. The equipment, which the Middletown Athletic Boosters donated, will help assist those who have suffered a cardiac arrest.

The new automated external defibrillator (AED) is located in the concession stand building. It is equipped with a battery-operated lock and can only be accessed by calling 911 for assistance. In addition, a Narcan kit, which is used to antidote the effects of an opioid overdose, has been placed inside the box.

The Middletown Fire Department installed the AED cabinet with assistance from the Town Council and the Middletown Athletic Boosters.

“We hope the AED cabinet never needs to get used, but it’s better that it’s there, just in case,” said Middletown Fire Battalion Chief Brian DeFreitas, who serves as the community’s EMS chief.

“I know we’re all appreciative to the Middletown Athletic Boosters for recognizing the need here and helping make this happen. The Town Council also went out of its way to support this effort, no questions asked. We can’t say ‘thank you’ enough because as everyone knows, minutes count in an emergency.”

The Town of Middletown encourages individuals to learn more about CPR and AEDs. CPR training classes are available for members of the public.
