As the 2024 elections draw near, a new campaign is underway at Middletown High School to increase civic engagement among students.

The ‘Get Out The Vote’ campaign is being led by student government leaders Kelsey Welby and Chloe Tysor.

“I know there are a lot of kids who have issues they believe in, whatever they may be,” the 16-year-old Chloe said. “There are some who aren’t, just like you could say for adults, but for the most part they’re working for the best interest of the school and the students.”

“With voting, sometimes it’s hard to motivate young people to get interested, but that was one of the goals with this — to provide education,” the 17-year-old Kelsey added. “Yes, you can register, you can vote at this age and you can make a difference.”

The students have created a QR scanning code that connects directly to the Secretary of State’s website to register to vote. Students can also register to vote by going directly to their school’s website.

They are also holding a voter drive to increase awareness about the importance of voting and encourage students to take an active role in their community.

The ‘Get Out The Vote’ campaign is part of a broader effort by the Secretary of State’s office to connect high school students with their government and encourage them to participate in civic activities.

The ‘Get Out The Vote’ campaign is an important way to promote civic engagement among students and empower them to take a role in shaping the future of their community.
