The Community College of Rhode Island has received national recognition for its training programs. The college has now been designated as a Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education.
The designation is a testament to the college’s efforts to provide training and education opportunities to students who are seeking careers in the maritime industry. The program is designed to help students gain a skills and knowledge base necessary for success in a variety of areas, including welding, plumbing, electrical, and maritime electronics.
The college has also been recognized for its partnerships with industry employers, which have helped to ensure that students are able to gain real-world experience in the industry. These partnerships have resulted in the creation of innovative training programs that are helping to prepare students for future careers.
“Given our commitment to training students to work in and sustain careers in the maritime industry, we are beyond thrilled to again earn designation as a Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education,” said CCRI Interim President Rosemary Costigan. “This validates the daily work by our Division of Workforce Partnerships to develop long-lasting partnerships with industry employers and build the curriculum necessary to ensure our students graduate CCRI with the skills they need to enter the workforce.”
The college is one of only 32 in the country to receive this designation, and it is the only college in New England to receive the designation.
