A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with up to 9 inches of snow expected Tuesday.

The warning is in effect until 7 pm on Wednesday for southeastern Massachusetts and southern Rhode Island portions.

Officials say the heavy snow could cause significant issues for drivers during their Tuesday morning and evening commute, with storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches of snow. Winds could also gust as high as 45 mph.

Due to low visibility and snow-covered roads, travel will rapidly become difficult on Tuesday morning and into the afternoon.
