Here’s our roundup of fun family activities for February vacation week. Keep the kids busy… and parents from going crazy … with these ideas for winter break around RI.

Take the kids go-karting at RI Indoor Karting in Lincoln, which features a 1/3 mile track and speeds up to 45MPH. (No worries for the little ones; the track has three-speed levels: beginner, amateur, and expert.) They also have an arcade, axe throwing, and darts to entertain you. Book your visit here.

Enjoy half-priced admission all week at The Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, a great day trip that is a lot of fun this time of year. Don’t expect the red carpet treatment you might get in the summer. Not all services are up and running off-season, but the animals who live there will certainly be glad to see smiling faces! Winter hours and more details here.

The Newport Winter Festival has dozens of events for kids, adults, and families. There’s live music, including the Jimmy Buffet tribute band Changes in Latitude, comedy, the Mac and Cheese SmackDown, the annual Burger Bender, and tons of events for the kids, including Bubblemania, Fire and Ice Mad Science Show, and the Princess Party at OceanCliff. Click here for complete festival details.

Bundle up, throw on those winter boots, and head to the Norman Bird Sanctuary for a Winter Wonderland-themed Wednesday Walk as part of the Newport Winter Festival. Check out winter birds and other animal habitats on February 21, at 3:30PM. Click here for details.

Check out a fascinating new exhibit, Breaking Barriers in Black Tennis, at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The exhibit highlights the breakthroughs, evolution, and impact of Black tennis players with the initial launch featuring 70 individuals from 19 nations. Click here for details.
