The Rhode Island Housing Affordability Commission meets on Thursday, February 15, 2024, to discuss the statewide housing market and the need for more affordable homes.
The commission is studying the barriers preventing the construction of more affordable homes and developing ideas to help cities and towns meet their obligations under the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act. The Low and Moderate Income Housing Act requires that at least 10% of the housing stock in Rhode Island be designated as affordable.
Housing Secretary Stefan Pryor, a commission member, will speak at the meeting about state and local fiscal recovery funds and updates on Furman’s feasibility study and the Abt Associates project to create a statewide housing plan. The meeting will also feature presentations from several Providence officials, including Deputy Legislative Liaison Michael Napolitano, Director of Housing and Human Services Emily Freedman and Tax Assessor Janesse Muscatelli.
No public testimony will be taken at the meeting. The meeting can be televised on Capitol Television and will also be streamed live on the Housing Network of Rhode Island website.
