Ragged Island Brewing Company presents Hanging Rock IPA label art.

On February 7, the Norman Bird Sanctuary welcomed over 60 supporters and friends at Ragged Island Brewing Company for a celebratory toast with a special edition of “Hanging Rock IPA” brewed in honor of the nonprofit organization’s 75th anniversary. A partnership between the local brewery and nature center, the release of the Hanging Rock IPA celebrates their shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community.

Norman Bird Sanctuary Board Chair, Liz Drayton, announces the release of Ragged Island’s Hanging Rock IPA.

“As Aquidneck Island natives, the Norman Bird Sanctuary holds a special place for both Matt and I,” said Katie Gray, Owner of Ragged Island. “As kids, we explored the hiking trails, attended camps, and spent countless hours trying to climb the grease pole during Harvest Fair.  We can both link our love of hiking and outdoor recreation to time spent at the Sanctuary. Creating Hanging Rock IPA is a natural way to celebrate our passion for the NBS with our community.”

This limited-edition brew pays homage to Norman Bird Sanctuary’s Hanging Rock – the iconic geological landmark that has become synonymous with the nonprofit organization’s commitment to conservation. In addition to being available at Ragged Island’s brewery in Portsmouth, the Hanging Rock IPA will be available at the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s 75thAnniversary events and programs, which include the Sightlines lecture series, Plein Air Day, 50th annual Harvest Fair, and so much more!

“Ragged Island has been an incredible supporter of the Norman Bird Sanctuary for years,” said Kaity Ryan, Norman Bird Sanctuary Executive Director. “We are grateful and proud to partner with them on this fun and creative collaboration that celebrates so many of our shared values: sustainability, local agriculture, community, and more.”

The Hanging Rock IPA will be available for purchase at local liquor stores and on tap at Ragged Island Brewing Company throughout 2024. 10% of all Hanging Rock IPA sales will be donated to the Norman Bird Sanctuary.
