Richard Owen Mason, 68, of East Greenwich, RI, formerly of Middletown, RI, passed away on February 1, 2024, surrounded by his family in North Kingstown, RI.
Richard was born in Needham, MA to Robert and Betty (Owen) Mason on June 21, 1955. He was known for his care and compassion for others, working as a nurse at Rhode Island Hospital for over 20 years. Rich liked to spend his quality time with family: from watching sports with his kids, to hanging out with his pets, or simply admiring the birds who visited his feeder. Above all, Rich’s favorite activity was cheering on his kids in everything they did. Be it Trevor and Colby’s baseball games or Caleigh’s cheerleading competitions, he was there for all of it.
Richard is survived by his devoted partner, Paula Gormley, his brother, Ken, and his children, Trevor, Caleigh, and Colby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty, his wife, Robin, and his faithful dog, Jack.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, February 6 from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 7 at Trinity Church, One Queen Anne Square, Newport, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in Honeyman Hall. Burial will follow at 1pm, Trinity Cemetery, 367 E. Main Rd, Portsmouth.
